Archives for the month of: July, 2011

After a two-day stay, it was time for grandma Sally to go home.

Getting in lots of cuddle time with grandma.

It was a chance for Felix to meet another family member – uncle Jamie! He came along with aunt Melissa and cousin Sarah to pick up Sally.

Felix got to meet the rest of his cousins today – Lily and Jenny – along with his aunt Cynthia and grandma Sally (Fazenbaker). Cynthia and the girls came along to drop grandma off to stay with us for a few days.

It’s hard to believe since he’s been home with us for almost a month now already…but today was supposed to be Felix’s due date!

Stay in the womb for 5 more weeks? Pfft! I don't think so!

Today mom and Felix left the house without dad for the first time to go to a postpartum lunch at the hospital to meet some other moms and babies. Mom did pretty well wrangling the car seat and stroller by herself considering she is only a month out from surgery…she’s only recently healed enough to even drive again.

It was good to make some new friends and talk shop, but the affair was pretty chaotic with about 30 mom/baby pairs in attendance and we both hit the couch after we got home.

Snoozin' on mom

Born four weeks ago tonight…what a month it’s been!

Happy four weeks, Felix! You are one awesome little guy.

Today we gave Felix a bath in the infant tub for the first time. Until now we’ve been giving him sponge baths, which he didn’t seem to mind (well, after the first one, which he cried though). How would he take to being immersed?

He didn’t know what to make of it the first few moments we put him in the sling. I reminded him he was floating in water for 8 months and he didn’t protest much more after that! We laid a washcloth over his belly to keep him warm and soaped him up. He hung onto mom’s hand most of the time, but things went pretty smoothly. He seemed to enjoy being all clean after we toweled him off.

Bath tub time!

This isn't so bad after all!

When we took newborn classes at the hospital, one of the common questions was how to know when a breastfed baby had enough to eat. The nurses told us that when full, babies would go into a “milk coma” and would pass right out, blissfuly limp and satisfied.

During a usual session, Felix will suckle for about 15-30 minutes with a burp break in between. However, he seems to be going through a growth spurt the past two days (normal for a 3-week-old) and has had some marathon feeding sessions. Today he beat his personal best at 48 minutes straight!

Felix in a "milk coma" right after a gigantic meal - look at that bulging little tummy!

Great aunt Sandy and uncle Peter came by to pick up Sarah’s mom and see their new great nephew. Fun to meet more of mom’s side of the family!

Getting acquainted with the Philipsens.

Hangin' with great uncle Peter.

Proud mama.

Dad is the best when it comes to getting burps out. Felix looks so tiny sitting on dad's lap!
